2022. Thirsty Planet Artist Series
This spring, I became the fifth artist to be chosen for the yearly Brite Tank series, a collaboration between Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. and Big Medium, where selected artists work directly with the Thirsty Planet brewers to develop a unique beer style, name, and packaging artwork based on the artist’s own practice. Once produced, this beer serves as the official beer of the Austin Studio Tour and is sold in select H-E-B grocery stores for a limited time.
Over the last several months, TP’s head brewer, Gabe Kuchar and I have worked to develop our beer. We call it WERK ETHIC. It’s “a clean and crisp American Lager with a sweet, hearty malt backbone and delicate green tea notes blended with subtle citrus and stone fruit.”
The concept came from my request to make “an exercise beer—something like Michelob Ultra, but better”…and let me tell you, Gabe has more than delivered! This beer is so refreshing, you might even be tempted to give up your post-grind Gatorade in favor of this brew. And it’s infused with green tea! What sounds healthier than green tea?!
For the packaging, I made a series of 6 new patches for the project, all depicting people working out while drinking beer. They are currently for sale though my online store during the limited run of this beer.
The beer launch party will be Thursday, October 27 from 6pm-9pm at Crux Climbing Center in South Austin.
The beer will also be served at the Canopy studios two weekends of the studio tour (Nov 12th/13th, 19th/20th). Additionally, the beer will be available for purchase at select Austin-area HEB grocery stores, and select Austin-area bars. Once I have more details about where you can find WERK ETHIC, I will post it to my instagram and on this page, so keep checking back.
Can’t wait to share one with you! Cheers!
